A CENTURY OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE
Dear Neighbor,
The year 2012 brings special meaning to the members of the West Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department. As firefighters, we always pride ourselves on holding certain values dear -- dedication, service, commitment. This year, we honor all those who have upheld these virtues as a West Caldwell firefighter for the last 100 years.
Since 1912, over 300 men and women have volunteered themselves to protect the lives and property of the citizens of West Caldwell. Our members come from every walk of life, but have one very sacred thing in common: a commitment to put their neighbors before themselves. Today, our volunteers proudly continue to uphold that legacy which began a century ago. Just as our founding members did in 1912, we leave loved ones in the middle of the night to answer a call for help. We spend hours, and sometimes days, helping the town recover when a massive storm hits. No matter what the reason, if you need your fire department, we will be there. Last year, members of the West Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department responded to 435 calls for assistance, including 63 working fires. All told, the members of the department volunteered over 8,000 man hours responding to calls, drills, meetings, and various community outreach programs. Additionally, our fire prevention bureau is always available to our citizens. Any questions regarding fire prevention or fire safety can be directed to the fire prevention bureau at 973-226-2302. The West Caldwell Volunteer Firemen’s Association is the support organization for the Fire Department membership. It covers a wide spectrum of services for both Firefighter and community. This year, the Association will be hosting a celebration to commemorate the Fire Department’s 100th Anniversary on September 22, 2012 from 3:00 to 9:00 pm. This event will be open to the community; we hope to see you there! As the President of the Association and on behalf of the members, I ask you to please renew your support for our members by making a donation using the slip below and the return envelope included or, new this year, online at http://www.wcvfd.org/donate.htm. Even the smallest donation goes a long way in helping our membership continue to serve you, our neighbors. Thank you and stay safe!
Sincerely,
Megan Stout President, West Caldwell Volunteer Firemen’s Association |
